The Belgian Journal of Zoology (BJZ )

The Belgian Journal of Zoology

The Belgian Journal of Zoology (ISSN: 0777-6276) is an open-access journal (covered in ISI Web of Science, Current Contents and other leading databases of scientific publications) publishing papers in all fields of zoology with a focus on biodiversity and adaptations. The Belgian Journal of Zoology publishes primary research papers, short notes, reviews, opinion and technical papers. We offer golden open-access at a reasonable price (see instructions for authors) and if required, fast-track, high quality reviewing. The Belgian Journal of Zoology also welcomes manuscripts or short notes describing alien animal species invading Belgium.
The Belgian Journal of Zoology no longer publishes purely taxonomic papers. The Belgian Journal of Zoology is published jointly by the Royal Belgian Zoological Society and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, with the support of the Direction Générale de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche and of the Universitaire Stichting van Belgie/Fondation Universitaire de Belgique. From 2010 onwards, the Bulletins of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences - Entomology/Biology have partly been merged with the Belgian Journal of Zoology and partly with the European Journal of Taxonomy.

General information

The Royal Zoological Society of Belgium and its Belgian Journal of Zoology continue in a long scientific tradition devoted to the promotion of zoology and to the publication of research in zoology. This tradition goes back to 1863, when the "Société malacologique de Belgique" was founded in Brussels and began to publish the "Annales de la Société malacologique de Belgique." Name changes took place in 1903 ("Annales de la Société royale malacologique et zoologique de Belgique"), and 1923 ("Annales de la Société Royale Zoologique de Belgique"). With the internationalisation of the editorial board in 1989, the journal was opened to the international scientific community, and the name "Belgian Journal of Zoology" was chosen. The Belgian Journal of Zoology is now distributed to the about 400 Belgian and international members of the Society, to bookshops, and is accessible, through an active exchange policy, in 230 libraries of various institutions in more than 50 countries in the world.
The Belgian Journal of Zoology publishes in English original papers, reviews and notes in Zoology focusing on “Biodiversity and adaptations”. All manuscripts (including short notes) are peer reviewed by at least two referees. Authors benefit from a waiver of page charges for up to ten printed pages for members of the Royal Belgian Zoological Society and staff members of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. The Belgian Journal of Zoology appears in two regular issues per volume (January and July) and occasional special issues.
